🕺💃 Let's talk Ballroom and Latin dancing! 💃🕺
Today, we'll discuss some of the main differences and characteristics of these dance styles.
In the Latin dances, we divide all of the Latin American, Caribbean, and Swing rhythms into three categories: International Latin, American Rhythm, and Club. These categories include dances like Cha Cha, Rumba, Bolero, Jive, Samba, Salsa, and Swing, just to name a few. All of these dances are characterized by rhythmic body movement, dramatic arm styling, flashy footwork, and turns. Fun to dance anywhere from small gatherings to large performances.
Now for Ballroom! We divide Ballroom into two categories: International Ballroom (or Standard) and American Smooth. These two categories include Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Peabody, and more. All the Ballroom dances are progressive in nature, but past that have very distinct features, such as the jazzy style of Foxtrot, the long, flowing extensions of Waltz, the staccato movements in Tango, and the fun, upbeat tempos of Peabody and Quickstep.
